February 12, 2026

DENVER (February 12, 2025) – Koelbel & Company proudly announces that Walter A. “Buz” Koelbel, Jr. has been named a 2026 Laureate of the Colorado Business Hall of Fame by the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and Junior Achievement-Rocky Mountain.

Buz Koelbel is honored to join a distinguished group recognized for their lasting impact on Colorado’s business community, ethical leadership, and philanthropy. The 2026 laureates represent a diverse range of industries, including banking, entertainment, real estate, land conservation, and renewable energy. The class includes The Appel Family, Blair Richardson, George Solich, Chuck Morris and Pioneer Tweet Kimball.

The inductees were honored at the annual Colorado Business Hall of Fame dinner on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at the Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center. Sherri Koelbel, Buz’s long-time wife, accepted the honor on Buz’s behalf, along with three generations of the Koelbel family in the audience.

A third-generation Coloradan, Buz Koelbel led Koelbel and Company for nearly 40 years, shaping the firm into one of Colorado’s most respected real estate development companies. Under his leadership, the company delivered landmark communities including The Preserve, TAVA Waters, Rendezvous Colorado, and Catalyst HTI — projects known for thoughtful planning, environmental stewardship, and long-term community value.

Throughout his tenure, Koelbel and Company added more than 700 income-restricted housing units, helping address critical affordable housing needs across the Front Range.

Beyond real estate development, Koelbel has been a tireless civic leader and philanthropist. He co-founded the Denver South Economic Development Partnership, the Common Sense Institute, and High Line Canal Advocacy. He has served on numerous nonprofit and community boards and has supported educational, environmental, and cultural institutions across Colorado.

“My dad always believed that great development was about more than buildings — it’s about building community,” said Carl Koelbel, President and CEO of Koelbel and Company. “His leadership has shaped not only our company, but the broader economic and civic landscape of Colorado. This recognition is a testament to decades of vision, integrity, and service.”

The Colorado Business Hall of Fame honors leaders selected for their innovative professional contributions, ethical acumen, and commitment to philanthropy. The event is generously supported by Presenting Sponsor UMB Bank, Reception Sponsor IMA Financial, and Toast to Success Sponsor MegaStar Financial Corp.
